The Automation and Controls Engineering Technician will design, implement, and optimize control systems to enhance manufacturing processes and drive operational excellence. This role serves as a key technical resource, collaborating with department managers to improve both new and existing processes related to capability, efficiency, and productivity.
The ideal candidate will use data-driven decision-making and root cause analysis to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and support production teams in achieving measurable performance gains. Responsibilities include end-to-end project management, from initial concept through execution, ensuring alignment with project timelines, goals, and cross-functional collaboration. This position requires a forward-thinking mindset and a commitment to innovation in manufacturing systems and processes.
Duties:
Including but not limited to:
- Identify and conceptualize manufacturing improvements to address business needs and enhance operational performance.
- Develop automation and control solutions through process analysis, product and process design knowledge, supplier consultation, and operator feedback.
- Prepare cost justifications and obtain approvals for capital expenditures and improvement initiatives.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate project implementation, delivering results in safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
- Partner with department managers to drive continuous improvement in process capability, operational efficiency, and productivity.
- Use data-driven decision-making and root cause analysis to identify performance gaps and implement sustainable improvements.
- Promote a collaborative team environment that encourages open communication, cross-functional cooperation, and alignment with company goals within a unionized workforce.
- Support training program development to improve production flow, safety, and production parameters aligned with quality and output goals.
- Serve as a technical resource to achieve world-class performance across safety, quality, productivity, and housekeeping metrics.
- Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to provide controls expertise for new equipment, tooling installations, and modifications to ensure consistency with plant standards and integration requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred; equivalent education and relevant work experience will be considered.
- Proven project management skills, including experience leading technical projects with timelines, budgets, and cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of ISO standards, Lean, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis preferred.
- Proficiency with measuring tools, blueprint reading, and general manufacturing processes.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and drafting or CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, maintenance, and operations teams.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment with hands-on involvement in automation or control systems.
