We are seeking a career-minded manual machinist to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with a quality-focused mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement. The machinist will assist with daily production, scheduling, and setup of manual machines, working with a variety of materials and custom setups for customer projects.
 
Duties:
Including but not limited to:
  • Set up and operate manual and special-purpose machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts
  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, manuals, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, and sequence of operations
  • Measure, mark, and scribe materials for machining
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and accessories on machines such as mills, lathes, and drill presses
  • Calculate and set machine controls such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth/angle of cut, or enter commands into computerized machine control media
  • Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust as needed
  • Verify dimensions and alignment of finished workpieces and assemblies
  • Build fixtures for drilling, milling, and turning as required
  • Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, and programmers to resolve machining or assembly issues
  • Check accuracy of engineering, sales, and manufacturing input to ensure final product meets quality standards, communicating any changes to relevant departments
  • Support and implement 5S initiatives, quality standards, and EHS policies
  • Maintain and use specialty measuring tools and machinist handbook for precision work
  • Perform single-point threading, calculate speeds/feeds, sharpen tooling, and lay out complex features
  • Write procedures for producing parts, including work holding and step sequence
  • Understand tooling geometry, surface finishes, and tolerance fits
  • Compensate for tool deflection and consistency
 
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or completion of an apprenticeship in Machine/Tool and Die Technology, or equivalent experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a quality-focused environment
  • Proficiency in running and setting up manual equipment
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with blueprint reading, machining calculations, and specialized measuring tools
 
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, and loud noise
  • Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and extreme heat
  • Regular standing, sitting, use of hands, reaching, talking, and hearing
  • Occasional walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting heavy items
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
 
Tools & Equipment:
  • Machinist scale, calipers, micrometer set, combination square, gauges, punches, scribe, tape measure, calculator, hammers, wrenches, dial indicator, edge finder, screwdrivers, Allen wrenches, thread pitch gauge, deburring tool, and machinist handbook
  • Supplied by the company: Safety glasses, drills, and taps
