The Transportation Specialist ensures the organization meets all applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. This centralized role focuses on streamlining compliance tasks, maintaining accurate records, and supporting driver readiness to promote safety, efficiency, and regulatory adherence across operations. Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations is a plus.
Duties:Including but not limited to:
· Stay current on FMCSA, FAA, and FRA regulations; communicate regulatory changes and train staff accordingly. Develop procedures and training content to ensure ongoing compliance.
· Create, develop, and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to improve safety performance and compliance.
· Manage all fuel tax filings and coordinate with internal teams to secure required out-of-state permits and ensure accurate reporting.
· Maintain the CDL driver drug testing pool, ensuring timely enrollment, screening, and follow-up in line with DOT requirements.
· Keep detailed, compliant electronic and paper records for logs, incidents, and training, in accordance with regulatory retention guidelines.
· Conduct annual compliance reviews of CDL holders and oversee clearinghouse submissions for eligibility verification.
· Lead investigations of all vehicle-related incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
· Train drivers on Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and ensure proper logging to meet DOT standards.
· Guide employees through the CDL licensing process and schedule necessary testing in alignment with FMCSA requirements.
· Monitor expiration dates for licenses and certifications, notify drivers in advance, and ensure continued legal driving status.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· 5+ years of experience in a transportation or safety compliance role.
· Strong knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations; FAA and FRA familiarity is a plus.
· Bachelor’s degree in safety, legal, public health, business, or a related field preferred.
