Director, Quality & Risk

Our Award-Winning Client, a nationally recognized organization with a reputation for excellence, seeks a highly skilled and motivated Director of Quality & Risk to lead their Quality Management department at their Mayfield, KY, location. This key leadership role will focus on risk management, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to measure, assess, and enhance processes and outcomes.
  • Lead efforts to develop and implement departmental goals and standards that align with organizational objectives.
  • Oversee the risk management program, including data collection, trend analysis, and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, including CMS and The Joint Commission.
  • Analyze and report risk exposure data, providing actionable insights to relevant departments.
  • Provide in-service education on risk management, safety topics, and evidence-based practices.
  • Monitor and direct staffing activities such as hiring, orientation, performance evaluations, and continuing education.
  • Administer and oversee the use of incident reporting systems, ensuring accurate data entry and timely intervention.
  • Coordinate organizational readiness for accreditation surveys and regulatory audits.
  • Assist leadership and external legal counsel in managing claims and lawsuits.
  • Develop policies to support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Facilitate Environment of Care risk reduction activities to promote a safe physical environment.
  • Create statistical analyses and presentations for committee review, supporting strategic initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and counsel for risk management-related matters, escalating significant issues when necessary.
  • Foster an environment conducive to professional growth and development.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with active KY or multi-state RN licensure.
  • Certification in Risk Management (CPHQ required within one year of employment).
  • Expertise in Process Review, Root Cause Analysis, and regulatory/accreditation requirements.
  • Proven ability to think critically, make decisive judgments, and work independently in high-pressure situations.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare, or Business.
  • Five years in healthcare risk management or accreditation activities, including knowledge of insurance programs.
  • Two years of leadership experience in quality or clinical nursing.
  • Experience in critical care and direct patient care settings.
  • Familiarity with The Joint Commission and Department of Health standards.

Candidate Details

Must-Haves:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and active RN license.
  2. Certification in Risk Management and experience in an acute care setting.

Nice-to-Haves:

  1. Strong analytical and data presentation skills.
