Under general direction, the Process Modeler is responsible for customer assessment and modeling engagements. This position supports the improvement of Process and Equipment designs by transferring information from the Plant Model to the Aspen Custom Modeler. This includes work in computational fluid dynamics, mass and energy balances, process modeling, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer using state-of-the-art computer modeling techniques, advanced engineering measurements, and analytical calculations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Including but not limited to:
Perform facility assessments and modeling engagements to improve customer facility performance in energy, yield, capacity, water, and wastewater consumption. Conceive and design processes and equipment to improve the industries that the company serves, beginning with theoretical design, followed by modeling and recommended improvements. Work with Field Services teams to execute recommended improvements across all of the company’s processing capability areas (Extraction, Preparation, Specialty, Refining, and SPC).
Demonstrate advanced application knowledge of computer-aided engineering and other analytical methods, including process and equipment modeling.
Provide engineering support, guidance, and technical assistance to project managers, process engineers, salesmen, and designers.
Perform various engineering calculations and analyses related to process design and equipment sizing and selection.
Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
Master's degree in Chemical Engineering. PhD preferred.
Minimum 10 years related experience.
Proficient in the following skills:
Theoretical application of engineering principles for calculating and estimating process performance.
Aspen Custom Modeler or equivalent simulation software.
Creating customized engineering models to simulate material and energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, energy and mass transfer, separations technologies, chemical-reaction kinetics, and reactor design.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, and vendors.
Respond to requests and inquiries from internal and external customers.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Demonstrated experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams, creating value for end customers, and driving operational excellence within areas of responsibility.
Strong Microsoft Office skills.
Self-manages; takes initiative and can collaborate across geographies and functions in a matrixed environment.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
High integrity and ethics.
Able to read, analyze, and interpret contracts.
Required knowledge of Aspen Custom Modeler or equivalent.
Preferred knowledge in Autodesk Inventor, CAD Vault, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
Must be able to communicate in English fluently. Ability to communicate in a second language – European or Asian languages preferred but not required.
Travel:
Ability to travel on an as-needed basis – domestically or internationally and up to 25% of the time.
