This position manages safety and health programs, ensuring compliance for the unit. The role involves developing, implementing, and sustaining a health and safety management system while managing programs that reduce employee exposure to workplace hazards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and sustain safety and health management programs.
  • Lead the implementation of initiatives that reduce workplace hazards.
  • Provide strategic leadership and serve as a resource to management to establish and achieve safety goals.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance during inspections and regulatory visits.
  • Influence division and platform leadership, offering guidance on occupational health and safety.
  • Typically reports to the factory manager or operations leadership.
 

Additional Duties:

  • Contribute to functional strategy by applying expertise to meet business needs.
  • Monitor and review performance against health, safety, and environment (HSE) key performance indicators (KPIs) and address non-compliance.
  • Gather business requirements using methods such as interviews and workshops.
  • Provide specialized advice on policy interpretation, referring complex issues when necessary.
  • Investigate incidents, minimize risks, and ensure regulatory standards are met.
  • Collaborate across functions to align with regulatory and registration requirements.
  • Communicate local action plans and explain their alignment with broader organizational goals.
  • Develop and manage budgets with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • May assist with workers' compensation administration and return-to-work programs

 

Qualifications:

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Ability to identify, assess, and manage risks independently.
  • Expertise in developing and applying policies and procedures aligned with organizational strategies.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to express ideas and formulate plans or policies.
  • Proficiency in analyzing data trends to guide decision-making.
  • Experience managing safety systems and supporting business processes with minimal supervision.
  • Competency in standard office equipment and software packages.

 

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or an equivalent level of education.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • 1-3 years of experience in safety and ergonomics.
  • Miscellaneous degree or equivalent experience. - Technical degree or apprenticeship (1-2 years or equivalent)
  • 1-3 years of experience working in customer service or related customer-oriented environments.

 

Additional Information:

  • Technical degree or apprenticeship is acceptable in place of formal education.
