Our Award Winning Client, a nationally recognized leader in next-generation communication technologies and fiber optic innovations, is actively seeking an experienced R&D Product Engineer to contribute to their Fiber Cable Engineering division located in Claremont, North Carolina. With numerous accolades and a national footprint, our client is at the forefront of developing advanced solutions for a variety of network infrastructures—including broadband, enterprise, data centers, and telecommunications environments.

Position Overview:

This R&D Product Engineering role will be focused on designing, developing, and supporting ribbonized fiber optic cable systems used in a wide range of high-performance network applications. You will collaborate across multiple departments, including operations, procurement, field application engineering, and product management, to ensure seamless development and manufacturing of fiber cable products. The role provides the opportunity to manage multiple engineering projects, introduce innovative solutions, and help maintain the company’s position as a technical leader in the fiber optics space.

Key Responsibilities:

• Guide the design and enhancement of fiber ribbon cables and related product lines used in various indoor, outdoor, and hybrid network applications.

• Develop, test, and implement new materials and mechanical configurations to improve product performance, quality, and reliability.

• Engage with internal operations and manufacturing teams to coordinate development and trial production runs, ensuring scalability and quality alignment.

• Independently manage engineering projects, balancing long-term R&D work with daily operational needs.

• Troubleshoot and resolve product-related technical challenges using analytical thinking and engineering best practices.

• Collaborate within cross-disciplinary teams to evaluate technical data, refine product specifications, and drive improvements.

• Apply sound safety principles, quality control methods, and performance evaluations throughout the design lifecycle.

• Participate in fiber optic cable manufacturing initiatives and leverage engineering software and Microsoft Office tools for project documentation and planning.

Candidate Profile:

• Holds a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or a related discipline).

• Brings a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in product engineering, specifically in fiber optic cable design and development.

• Possesses direct experience designing fiber ribbons and ribbonized fiber optic cable systems.

• Demonstrates knowledge of fiber optic cable manufacturing processes and quality standards.

• Skilled in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and proficient in technical documentation and reporting.

• Exhibits an analytical mindset with the ability to solve complex problems through engineering analysis.

• Communicates clearly and confidently across various teams and technical levels.

• Highly self-motivated, organized, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

• Willing to travel occasionally (up to 10% within the United States).

• Able to function independently while contributing effectively to team-based goals.

Location Requirement:This role is based on-site in Claremont, NC. Candidates must be available to work in person at the designated location five days a week.
