Position Overview

The Director of Research & Development – Minerals and Nutrients will lead a team of scientists and engineers to drive innovation, process optimization, and product development. This role focuses on mineral chelates, choline, and nutraceutical ingredients to enhance human health and will be onsite at the research laboratories and pilot facility in Ogden, Utah. The Director will collaborate closely with business leaders, supply chain, and operations to ensure alignment between R&D initiatives and commercial growth strategies.

The Director will report directly to the Senior Director of R&D – HNH and serve as a key member of the Leadership Team, overseeing the transition of new products from bench scale to full commercialization while managing an R&D budget and resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a safety-first culture for all R&D personnel, laboratories, and pilot plants.
  • Oversee R&D project portfolios, ensuring alignment with commercial strategies and delivering high-quality, efficient results.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of scientists and engineers, ensuring they are equipped and trained to execute projects effectively.
  • Manage the scale-up of new products from bench scale to commercialization while driving process efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Partner with business leaders to prioritize and execute R&D projects that align with corporate growth initiatives.
  • Provide technical expertise and high-level support to internal and external stakeholders regarding product applications and innovation.
  • Oversee departmental budgets, capital requests, and physical facility improvements to support long-term growth.
  • Engage cross-functionally with R&D, supply chain, and operations to drive innovation and resolve technical challenges.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and proactively seek new product innovation and process improvement opportunities.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • BS in Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering, or a related field is required. An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) is preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, or materials industries with a strong technical leadership background.
  • Proven experience leading R&D teams and developing/launching new products from concept to commercialization.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with a track record of addressing unmet customer needs through innovation.
  • Expertise in process optimization and manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to thrive in a matrix organization and collaborate cross-functionally.
