Associate Attorney - Finance (Energy Regulatory & Markets Group)

 

Location: Washington, D.C.

 

Our client, a prestigious AmLaw 50 firm, is seeking a talented Associate Attorney to join their Energy Regulatory & Markets Group within the Project Development & Finance practice in their D.C. office. This is an incredible opportunity to work on some of the most transformative projects shaping the future of energy regulation.

 

Candidate Profile:

  • JD from a top-tier law school with a strong academic record.

  • Active Bar Admission in D.C.

  • 3+ years of substantive experience in federal energy regulatory matters, including practice before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

  • Experience advising clients on regulatory frameworks involving power markets and/or natural gas.

  • Prior experience at a national or international law firm is required.

  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.

  • Proven ability to manage regulatory filings and proceedings, conduct legal research, and counsel clients on compliance strategies.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients before the FERC on a range of regulatory matters involving power and natural gas.

  • Advise on market rules, rates, and tariff filings under the Federal Power Act and the Natural Gas Act.

  • Provide counsel on regulatory approvals, enforcement actions, and transactional regulatory due diligence.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across project finance, environmental, and corporate teams to support large-scale energy projects.

  • Stay abreast of evolving federal energy policies and provide strategic advice to clients navigating these changes.

  • Draft and negotiate regulatory filings, pleadings, and responses to agency inquiries.
