KIT Recruitment is continuing our successful partnership with a well-established food processing facility in Etobicoke to support their search for a licensed Refrigeration B Operator. This is a key position responsible for operating and maintaining the site’s ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems, as well as general HVAC and mechanical equipment across the facility. The ideal candidate will be TSSA-certified, mechanically inclined, and experienced in industrial maintenance, with a strong commitment to health, safety, and compliance.

Position Details:

·        Hours: Day or Afternoon Shift available.  

·        Wage: $38-$40/hr* based on qualifications.

·        Benefits: Benefits after probationary period

·        Vacation: 4% paid out on biweekly paycheck.

·        RRSP: Company matches up to 3% after 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities:

·        Operate, monitor, and maintain ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems in compliance with TSSA standards

·        Perform regular inspections, log equipment readings, and report any anomalies

·        Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on HVAC, mechanical, and refrigeration systems

·        Complete daily defrost procedures and support other site mechanical needs (air compressors, condensers, motors, etc.)

·        Address general building maintenance issues including freezer doors, lighting, minor electrical/plumbing, and seasonal exterior work

·        Maintain clean and orderly equipment rooms and tools, adhering to safety and GMP protocols

·        Accurately maintain daily logs and prepare documentation for TSSA inspections

·        Provide backup support during Site Engineer absences

·        Collaborate with Health & Safety personnel to report and resolve hazards or incidents

·        Perform other related duties as required to ensure safe and efficient site operations

Qualifications:

·        TSSA-certified Class B Refrigeration Operator or 3rd Class Operating Engineer

·        3+ years of hands-on experience in a similar industrial maintenance role

·        Post-secondary education or technical certification in a relevant field

·        Mechanical aptitude and experience performing general building repairs

·        Knowledge of OHSA, EH&S, and food safety regulations

·        Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills

·        Capable of working in cold environments with appropriate PPE

·        Physically fit; able to lift 40 lbs, and perform crouching, bending, and standing tasks for extended periods

·        Willingness to work rotating shifts and weekends

·        Reliable self-starter who can work independently while keeping the team informed

·        Prior experience in food manufacturing or processing is a strong asset
