Overview:Our client is seeking a Senior Operational Technologist to lead the design, deployment, and support of Industrial Control System (ICS) infrastructure and OT cybersecurity initiatives across a diverse portfolio of thermal and renewable energy facilities. This strategic and technical role is integral to ensuring the security, reliability, and performance of critical operational systems.
Technical Responsibilities:
Design, deploy, monitor, and maintain ICS infrastructure for power generation facilities.
Manage OT tools and processes including asset management, SIEM, intrusion monitoring, privileged access management (PAM), and multi-factor authentication (MFA).
Oversee patch management and remediation within the OT environment based on risk assessments.
Conduct and lead OT cybersecurity risk assessments and remediation activities.
Provide technical direction to contractors and maintenance personnel to ensure successful completion of ICS-related initiatives.
Support incident response efforts, contributing to containment and resolution of cybersecurity events.
Strategic and Governance Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain internal standards, procedures, and guidelines for ICS and OT cybersecurity in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate cyber risk mitigation strategies into supply chain and management of change (MOC) processes.
Ensure MOC compliance for ICS-related changes across all operational sites.
Contribute to the development and execution of the long-term OT cybersecurity roadmap and system lifecycle planning.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience:
Minimum 7 years of experience in OT, ICS, or industrial automation environments (e.g., SCADA, PLCs, DCS, RTUs).
Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining plant-level operational and control networks.
Experience with incident response, system hardening, patching, and adherence to security frameworks.
Technical Skills:
Deep knowledge of ICS/SCADA systems and industrial protocols such as MODBUS, OPC, DNP3, ICCP.
Proficiency with Windows domain administration, virtualization platforms, and network architecture.
Strong understanding of OT cybersecurity technologies and principles (e.g., SIEM, PAM, MFA, intrusion detection tools).
Familiarity with compliance and governance processes, including supply chain security and MOC procedures.
Other Requirements:
U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Must be able to travel up to 20% within the U.S. and Canada.
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening, including a drug test, background check, and education verification.
Strong communication skills and ability to interact with both technical field teams and leadership.
Experience developing or contributing to OT cybersecurity roadmaps and strategic planning.
Background in power generation, utilities, or other critical infrastructure sectors.
Experience mentoring junior engineers or managing contractors in the field.
Familiarity with risk assessment frameworks and vulnerability remediation in OT environments.
Highly experienced OT engineer with a builder’s mindset and strong problem-solving abilities.
Effective communicator capable of translating complex technical concepts to various audiences.
Comfortable operating in both strategic and hands-on technical roles.
Passionate about improving infrastructure security in mission-critical environments.
Adaptable and collaborative, with the ability to work across diverse teams and regions.
