Our Award-Winning Client, a nationally recognized industry leader, is seeking a Principal Supplier Technical Engineer to support its Sand Castings Supply Chain. This role requires extensive technical expertise in Metal Castings and related Machining Processes, with a strong emphasis on supplier quality management, process improvement, and technical problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical authority for assigned purchased components, ensuring quality and compliance from New Product Introduction (NPI) through full production.
  • Apply deep technical knowledge in Metal Castings and Machining Processes to drive supplier performance and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Act as the technical lead for complete make-purchased parts, ensuring seamless integration and adherence to design and production standards.
  • Communicate and align technical requirements with suppliers, including design review, Configuration Management, and tooling oversight.
  • Analyze supplier quality performance data, collaborate with Sourcing Specialists and Buyers, and develop improvement strategies leveraging root cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions.
  • Provide technical input on supplier selection, qualification, and ongoing evaluations, partnering with sourcing and engineering teams to assess capabilities.
  • Lead and coordinate efforts related to Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD), NPI, and Continuous Process Improvement (CPI).
  • Participate in Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to mitigate design and process risks.
  • Oversee Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and develop First Article Production Inspection Test Plans (FAPITP) in collaboration with Design Engineering.
  • Work closely with Design Engineering to resolve Reject Notices (RNs) and Requests for Technical Authorization (RTAs).

Qualifications & Technical Expertise:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong background in engineering practices, process planning, tooling concepts, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), and functional testing.
  • Proven experience in Metal Castings and related Machining Processes.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems, industry standards, and supplier performance management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High ethical and professional standards.
  • Experience with Magmasoft casting process simulation and pattern design.
  • Project management expertise, including knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies (Black Belt or Green Belt preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in root cause analysis, statistical tools, and corrective action implementation.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to effectively manage sensitive issues and build consensus internally and externally.
  • Experience with Design of Experiment (DOE) methodologies.
  • In-depth understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and their application in supplier and production environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes such as turning, milling, and assembly production, as well as shop operations and maintenance procedures.
