Position Overview
The Plant Superintendent will provide leadership and management across all plant operations, ensuring the achievement of safety, quality, and production goals. Responsible for overseeing both hourly and salaried employees, the Superintendent will focus on operations management, maintenance, warehouse coordination, budget management, and continuous improvement of productivity and quality standards.
This position involves maintaining a safe and compliant work environment, optimizing production schedules, and improving economic efficiency while ensuring all operations meet high standards for quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Production Management
- Oversee daily plant operations, ensuring efficient workflows, production schedules, and acceptable quality levels.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and oversee safety programs to protect personnel and maintain facility standards.
- Manage the production schedule, balancing economic efficiency and process capabilities to meet production goals.
- Collaborate closely with QA, QC, and Engineering to maintain quality systems and ensure continuous improvements.
- Lead the planning and execution of productivity improvement initiatives using Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
Team Leadership & Staff Development
- Supervise a team of 150+ hourly and 6 salaried employees, providing direction, training, and performance management.
- Conduct performance evaluations, pay reviews, and manage the hiring and termination processes.
- Develop and implement training programs to support business growth and development objectives.
- Foster a team-oriented culture with a focus on safety, quality, and productivity.
Budget & Resource Management
- Develop and manage the plant’s annual budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with company goals.
- Coordinate resources, including workforce and facilities, to optimize operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Manage inventory levels and maintain production schedules to avoid shortages or excess stock.
Technical Oversight & Project Support
- Oversee technical activities and coordinate with Engineering to support ongoing projects and process improvements.
- Act as Plant Manager in their absence and provide assistance with special projects as needed.
- Ensure the plant infrastructure is maintained and troubleshoot issues related to machinery and systems.
What You Bring to the Team

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Ceramics) or business management, with at least 7 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment, including supervisory roles.
- Proven leadership and management skills, with experience managing a team of 150+ employees.

Technical knowledge and the ability to drive change in a heavy industrial setting.
- Expertise in Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies to optimize productivity.
- Proficiency in using ERP systems (experience with SAP preferred).
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Experience in quality management and safety compliance, with a proven track record of achieving positive safety results.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- The work environment is typical of a manufacturing facility and may involve exposure to various environmental conditions, including cold, heat, high noise levels, dust, gas fumes, and extensive walking or climbing.
