Our Award-Winning Client, a nationally recognized leader with a rich history in the aerospace and defense sectors, is seeking a Senior System Engineer to join its dynamic Space & Defense team. With a portfolio closely aligned to U.S. military initiatives and a commitment to advancing space exploration, our client provides cutting-edge solutions to critical national projects, including NASA’s deep space programs.

This role is based onsite in Blacksburg, VA, reporting directly to the Site Engineering Manager.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aeronautical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in the design and analysis of precision electromechanical equipment
  • Expertise in mechanical design/packaging, alongside strong electrical and analytical capabilities
  • Teamwork-oriented with a history of successful collaboration in multidisciplinary settings
  • Proficient in CAD/CAE software (UG NX is highly desirable)
  • Knowledgeable in motion control techniques and experienced in conducting motion simulations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the design of complex rotary servo motion assemblies tailored for demanding military and aerospace environments, ensuring reliability under harsh conditions.
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines, including mechanical, structural dynamics, electrical, and thermal systems, to develop fully integrated electromechanical systems.
  • Predict system-level performance using core engineering principles, selecting optimal approaches for various applications.
  • Lead product development teams, guiding projects from conception through to timely completion.
  • Track project progress, provide regular status updates to senior management, and ensure alignment with client specifications.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison, managing relationships with both suppliers and customers, and preparing technical documentation including statements of work and product specifications.

Candidate Details:Candidates should have 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in systems engineering or related fields. A Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required, with a focus on mechanical, electrical, or aeronautical disciplines. This mid-senior level position does not require management experience but does require a willingness to travel occasionally.
