The Systems Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the Credit Union Service Organization’s (CUSO) computing infrastructure. This role ensures that servers, storage, virtualization platforms, and security operations remain secure, reliable, and scalable to meet organizational needs. The Systems Engineer will deliver responsive support to internal teams and member credit unions in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and support server and virtualization environments, ensuring system reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server operating systems and related infrastructure services.
  • Manage VMware virtualization platforms, including capacity planning, monitoring, and optimization.
  • Support and troubleshoot Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) environments and related hardware.
  • Maintain and monitor system security operations to ensure compliance with policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and support backup and disaster recovery solutions, including Veeam.
  • Provide operational support for monitoring, patching, and remote management tools such as NinjaOne.
  • Assist with the administration of Red Hat Linux systems as required.
  • Collaborate with IT team members to deliver reliable and secure technology solutions aligned with organizational goals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of server configurations, changes, and operating procedures.
  • Provide after-hours support as part of any on-call rotation. 
  • Keeps stakeholders and management apprised of progress on problems.
  • Clearly document requests and resolutions in resource management system (Help Desk Tickets and project management). 
  • Continues personal development and education to remain informed of current industry development and technologies.

Education/Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting experience in systems engineering, infrastructure support, or related IT role.
  • Strong proficiency with VMware virtualization technologies.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, including Active Directory, Group Policy, and related services.
  • Hands-on experience with VMware infrastructure including, vSphere and vCenter.
  • Experience with Veeam Backup & Replication.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Administration.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Administration.
  • Experience with Redhat Linux Experience Preferred. 

Skills/Qualifications:

Duties are performed primarily in an office setting.  They include, but are not limited to, the ability to operate a computer and other standard office equipment.  In addition, the following skills and qualifications are necessary:

  • Strong knowledge of networking functions
  • Knowledge and experience working with Active Directory
  • Fundamental knowledge of Linux/UNIX Operating Systems
  • Strong knowledge of storage systems (SAN/NAS Management)
  • Ability to correctly interpret and enforce network security standards and policies as they apply to users and systems
  • Ability to explain and discuss complex hardware and software issues in a manner that can be understood by non-technical persons
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
