Our Award Winning Client, a national leader in healthcare with a history of receiving multiple awards, is looking for an Oncology Data Specialist to strengthen its cancer program. This role involves identifying and confirming diagnoses of specific diseases and determining whether patients meet the criteria for inclusion in the cancer program database. The Oncology Data Specialist will abstract key demographic, diagnostic, epidemiological treatment, and survival data from inpatient and outpatient records, reports, and electronic databases. The role includes coding the primary site, morphology, and staging the disease both clinically and pathologically, while ensuring accurate follow-up with patients, physicians, and clinics to update any missing information.

Additional responsibilities may include supporting tasks like case identification, managing suspense and follow-up reports, coordinating cancer conferences, handling alerts from the Rapid Cancer Reporting System (RCRS), and contributing to cancer committee and breast program leadership meetings.

Skills and Certifications

• Associate's Degree in a health-related field
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, and ICD coding
• ODS-C – Certified Oncology Data Specialist (formerly known as Certified Tumor Registrar)

Candidate Details

The ideal candidate must reside within DC, PA, MD, VA, or WV, and hold certification in oncology data or cancer registry. While prior experience is advantageous, recent graduates with the necessary certification are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates nearing completion of ODS certification will also be considered, but they must complete certification before starting the role. This position provides an opportunity for growth and training, making it ideal for professionals who are certified but may have limited experience.
