As the technical expert in our sales cycle, you’ll assess client IT environments, determine where they stand, and define steps for a secure, efficient, and fully supportable network. Using data collection and assessment tools, you’ll collaborate with sales, engineering, service delivery, and account management to translate complex technical details into actionable solutions. This role demands strong technical acumen, adaptability, and the ability to craft phased improvement plans for modern, forward-looking IT ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Discovery & AssessmentsEngage with clients to evaluate their IT landscape, data flow, and system criticality. Use industry-standard tools for data collection, occasionally coordinating with engineering or service desk teams.
  • Solution DevelopmentPrepare and present clear proposals emphasizing cybersecurity, reliability, and phased improvements that guide clients toward a modern IT ecosystem.
  • Sales Process SupportWork with the sales team to identify opportunities, develop proposals, and integrate technical insights into RFPs, ultimately helping to win new business.
  • Client & Team CollaborationServe as a trusted advisor, build rapport with clients, coordinate resources, and travel as needed for on-site data gathering.
  • Continuous ImprovementDevelop a deep knowledge of client infrastructures, transitioning from initial assessments to ongoing improvement plans. Stay updated on emerging technologies, cybersecurity trends, and compliance standards.

Typical Day-to-Day Activities

  • Client DiscoveryConduct assessments, gather data using industry-standard tools, and coordinate team resources when needed for on-site portion of discovery.
  • Proposal & DocumentationCreate bills of materials (BOM) and basic scopes of work (SOW), translating technical findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Meetings with ClientsSupport account managers with existing clients and join the sales team for prospective client meetings to present solutions.
  • Vendor & Partner CoordinationCollaborate with vendor partners to design solutions, establish pricing, and ensure alignment with client goals.
  • LearningContinuously research emerging technologies, cybersecurity best practices, and industry trends to inform solution development.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

  • Experience
    • Minimum of 3+ years in an engineering, sales engineering, or highly technical sales role.
    • Proven ability to conduct detailed technical discoveries and translate technical data into business insights.
  • Technical & Compliance Knowledge
    • Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices.
    • Prior experience in the MSP space working with a variety of client environments is highly valued.
  • Interpersonal Skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • A consultative approach to understanding client challenges and presenting technical solutions.
  • Willingness to travel overnight 1-3 times per month

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree in a related field.
  • Exposure to compliance frameworks (e.g., CMMC, NIST, HIPAA, PCI).
  • Experience working with diverse IT environments and managing multiple projects in a dynamic setting.
