Job Summary
The Duty Officer is an administrative position based in Chloeta’ s Catastrophe (CAT) Command Center (CCC) in Oklahoma City, OK and provides daily intelligence support and operational coordination for field-based wildland fire resources on a nationwide basis.

Duties/Responsibilities
Ensures fire season severity predictions, fire behavior, and fire activity levels are being monitored and takes appropriate actions to ensure safe, efficient and effective operations of responding units.
Prepares, reviews and conducts briefings for field-based firefighting resources preparing to mobilize an incident.
Works in conjunction with Meteorologists, GIS Specialists, other Duty Officers and Data Analysts to monitor daily fire situation(s) nationally to keep apprised of possible fire complexities and dangers.
Works with leadership to direct and coordinate the daily assignment of field-based firefighting resources across a large geographic area.
Anticipates fire suppression needs and recommends resource allocation/response based on the anticipated severity of the incident.
Review internal operating procedures and systems, makes recommendations for improvement, and update/develop operating plans and mobilization guides.
Oversees wildfire preparedness assessments for homeowners and provides quality control for fire management program activities.
Monitors the application and use of fire management agreements and contracts, to ensure effectiveness and conformity with established standards.
Identifies/communicates leadership shortages for critical resources; provides information for determining allocation priorities for those critical resources relating to personnel, apparatus, equipment, and supplies.
Supervise production of Mission Ready Packages, smoke check analysis, and develop fire monitoring criteria.
Review client responses for required analysis criteria.
Ensure that client facing materials produced by assigned area have appropriate fire behavior analysis techniques applied.

Required Skills/Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Google Workspace, and related software.
Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail.
Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing
Ability to work independently, self-starter.
May be subject to on-call duties.
Education and Experience
Required: Associate’s degree in forestry or a related field or a minimum of 10-15 years of wildland fire experience with verifiable progression through fire leadership positions.
Required: Minimum five (5) years' experience in wildland fire management and leadership at the NWCG Strike Team/Task Force Leader position (or equivalent) or higher.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in related field
Preferred: Seven (7) years' experience in wildland fire management and leadership at the NWCG Strike Team/Task Force Leader position or higher.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
This job operates in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, tablets etc.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Due to nature of emergency operations, the position is subject to on-call availability or extended hours.
