Job Summary A seasonal Wildland Firefighter (FFT2) or Senior Firefighter (FFT1) at Chloeta will participate in wildfire prevention and mitigation for insurance structure protection. This role will be focused mainly on property insurance protection and not on suppression activities. When not on assignment, engine crews usually do physical training and work projects like basic engine maintenance, wildfire staging, homeowner assessments, data collection and prescribed burn assignments.

Duty Station:  Seasonal Firefighters and Seasonal Senior Firefighters deploy from home of record.  There is 80-90% travel involved with the position.
 
Compensation:
  • Non-exempt Per FLSA standards
  • $18 - $20 per hour 
  • Chloeta reserves the right to offer any candidate above or below the listed compensation amount based on experience or business needs.  
 
Duties/Responsibilities 
  • Conduct WUI operations according to guidelines stated in the IRPG, incident-specific objectives and guidelines, and agency-specific guidance.
  • Engage in property triage and mitigation work, including fire-line construction, preparing fire breaks, mopping up, felling small trees, putting in sprinkler kits and cutting brush using power tools.
  • Collect and report data on threatened policies and enter into databases with a high level of data integrity while triaging and mitigating wildfire risks on policy holders’ property.
  • Remain skilled in and properly apply modern fire suppression and prevention tactics, methods, and procedures.
  • Respond to incidents with their crew in a timely, safe and skilled manner.
  • Follow established Company procedures when responding to incidents.
  • Correctly and promptly uses all relevant apparatus, tools, and equipment for property protection.
  • Maintain a positive working environment and strive to meet the client’s needs.

Required Skills/Abilities 
  • Current/valid State issued Driver License (DL) with acceptable driving record. 
  • Must be 21 years old
  • Must be proficient in utilizing technology such as computers and tablets/iPads.  
  • Must represent Chloeta professionally at times.
  • Operate effectively in team settings in high stress environments.
  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness.
  • Maintain a constant state of readiness for response(s) nationwide.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to compose and present comprehensive reports by a variety of communication methods.
  • Preferred: DOT Medical Examiner’s Certification (will be authorized by employer for qualified individuals)  
Education and Experience 
  • Required:  High School diploma or GED equivalent 
  • Required: Current NWCG FFT2 or FFT1 certification with proof of training 
  • Optional: NFPA 1001 (FF1 or FF2) certification may be considered for the position with acceptable crosswalk and Gap courses.

Physical Requirements 
  • Ability to pass a WCT (Work Capacity Test a.k.a “Pack Test”) at Arduous Level (Complete a 3 mile walk wearing a 45 pound pack in less than 45 minutes)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • This job operates in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc.

Pre-employment Requirements 
Due to the nature of Chloeta’s services, this position is contingent upon completing with a satisfactory outcome some or all of the following pre-employment background screenings:  government security clearance, federal and state criminal background checks, drug test (urinalysis), Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, educational history, employment history, and/or credit check.  In accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), pre-employment background screenings will require the employee’s written authorization and will occur after acceptance of an offer of employment and prior to commencing work.  Additionally, employees are required to complete the federal I-9/E-Verify process. 
 

Emergency Response: 

Every Chloeta employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official Duty Station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official Position Description (PD). Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
