Job Title: CTDOT Chief Inspector – Paving

Location: Stamford, CT

Our Award-Winning Client, a nationally recognized infrastructure leader known for excellence across transportation and civil engineering sectors, is currently seeking a seasoned Chief Inspector with certified proficiency in hot mix asphalt paving. This key role is affiliated with a Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) project and demands deep technical knowledge, leadership ability, and a strong background in roadway and paving inspection.

Position Summary:The selected individual will take on a leadership role in overseeing daily paving operations while ensuring the successful execution of specifications, field coordination, and material quality for roadway surfacing projects. This opportunity places you at the forefront of ensuring compliance and performance on public infrastructure initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct on-site activities and serve as the principal field contact during paving operations

  • Oversee and coordinate day-to-day inspection workflows for hot mix asphalt paving

  • Monitor contractor execution for alignment with CTDOT guidelines, project schedules, and regulatory compliance

  • Perform thorough quality control inspections on materials and application methods

  • Document project activities using detailed daily logs, photographic tracking, and inspection records

  • Evaluate and review submittals, paving mix formulations, and relevant quality assurance test results

  • Serve as a liaison between field personnel, contractors, and state transportation engineers

  • Provide support in addressing non-compliance issues, processing changes, and troubleshooting on-site conditions

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • NETTCP Hot Mix Asphalt Paving Inspector Certification (REQUIRED)

  • At least five (5) years of experience performing or overseeing paving inspection activities on public infrastructure projects

  • Deep knowledge of CTDOT construction standards, pavement materials, and laboratory testing methods

  • Demonstrated experience in leading field inspection teams with a strong command of jobsite coordination

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to maintain professional interactions across teams

  • Competent in preparing detailed documentation and managing field reports

  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license and have reliable, personal transportation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic background in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred)

  • Prior CTDOT project experience in the role of Chief Inspector or Assistant Inspector

  • Additional NETTCP credentials, such as certifications in Soils & Aggregates and Concrete inspection, are advantageous
