About the Role

Our Award-Winning Client, a nationally recognized leader in the renewables and environmental industry, is seeking an Engineer III to oversee critical engineering and construction activities at solid waste disposal facilities. This role demands a highly skilled professional with expertise in environmental and solid waste management who can drive technical projects, mentor junior staff, and represent our client in regulatory and community forums.

The successful candidate will contribute to the innovation and advancement of comprehensive waste management services across multiple facilities, solidifying our client’s reputation as an industry innovator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage professional consulting firms conducting tasks such as permitting, construction planning, site monitoring, and regulatory submissions, ensuring quality control of deliverables.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies, serving as the primary technical contact for permits, inspections, and compliance issues. Represent our client at public hearings, technical conferences, and as a community liaison.
  • Oversee landfill construction projects, including bid preparation, contractor coordination, budget management, quality assurance, and final approvals.
  • Track and report capital budgets for engineering and construction projects, adhering to established company procedures.
  • Monitor landfill capacity by developing airspace calculations, capacity projections, and efficient fill sequencing plans, working closely with landfill managers on construction and closure timelines.
  • Regularly visit sites to ensure compliance with construction and permit requirements and identify opportunities for expansion or improvement.
  • Pursue and secure required permits or beneficial modifications to support operations and expansion efforts.
  • Collaborate with in-house experts to create innovative, cost-effective engineering solutions for operational and compliance challenges at landfills, transfer stations, and related facilities.
  • Provide technical guidance to management and other departments, including legal, finance, and safety, ensuring a clear path to issue resolution.
  • Assist with acquisitions, divestitures, and due diligence processes, including proforma modeling and evaluations with executive management.
  • Mentor and train junior staff, fostering their professional development and ensuring team success.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Engineering is required. Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering degrees are preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of related engineering experience.

Certifications and Technical Skills

  • Landfill Experience and Construction Experience are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations, including solid waste, air, stormwater, and wastewater compliance.
  • Expertise in landfill design, permitting, and environmental engineering.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead and execute multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with diverse audiences, including regulators and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and work independently or collaboratively.
  • Solid understanding of safety regulations and accounting principles, including P&L statements.

Work Environment and Travel

  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, including remote locations.
  • Work involves a mix of office and field environments.
