Overview:

Our client, a fully licensed and recognized Ontario Specialty Hospital is committed to a culture of excellence, empowering staff to make a difference, with trust, integrity, teamwork, and care at the heart of their business. They are looking for a dynamic and dedicated Human Resources Generalist to join their team.

 This role will work in partnership with employees, managers, and directors on a variety of employment related matters and provides guidance in accordance with applicable legislation and internal policies.

Job Description:

  •          Collaborate with Managers to provide necessary documentation pertaining to HR issues.
  • Individual contributor, no direct report.
  • Supports union and non-union staff.
  • Provides coaching and guidance to managers, directors and employees on HR matters and ensures adherence to legislation/laws, collective agreements, etc.
  • Must demonstrate maturity and ability to influence stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Leads grievances with directors, management, and union.
  • Participates in all union and non-union related meetings as required.
  • Provides support related to collective agreement interpretation and application.      
  • Understands progressive disciplinary and documentation process.
  • Supports Investigation and resolves employee relations matters within the Employment Standards Act and Shouldice Policies.    
  • Provides recommendations, develops and implements solutions to assist on all activities and issues.
  • Meets with stakeholders on a regular basis to keep current on issues that impact on the operational goals.
  • Listens to the needs of the business and takes ownership to explore/deliver solutions.
  • Handles employee relations issues and investigations in a timely manner, i.e. harassment.
  • Provides labour relations support with bargaining unit and is identified as a labour relations specialist and representative.
  • Reviews and updates job descriptions and pay scales.
  • Records Surge Learning and other required training.
  • Builds and maintains communication lines between Directors, Managers, Employees and ensures accessibility to both parties for advice.
  • Takes proactive measures to minimize formal complaints/grievances.
  • Ensures compliance with the Employment Stands Act.
  • Understands and supports the process for dismissal, severance, discipline and conflict resolution.
  • Participates in Health and Safety policy and oversight.
  •  Builds and maintains trust between the company and the Union.
  • Handles grievances including conducting grievance meetings, drafting formal responses to grievance and settlements, ensuring consistency in resolving issues and engaging with outside legal when necessary.
  • Skilled at resolving grievances and conflicts by getting management and the union to work collaboratively.
  • Attends arbitrations. Works closely with management and outside legal on preparing for arbitration.
  •  Researches and analyzes data in support of collective bargaining including reviewing external wage surveys and other compensation data.
  • Recommends changes to collective agreement language to support hospital objectives and minimize risk.
  • Responsible for communicating collective agreement updates to management to ensure compliance.
  • Administers collective agreements in a fair and equitable manner and advises management on course of action.
  • Interprets and applies relevant labour and employment legislation and regulations.

 

Qualifications: 

  • University degree and/or BA in Human Relations, Organizational Behaviour.
  • CHRP designation would be an asset.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is mandatory.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in HR.
  • Sound knowledge of human resources best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of employment standards, legislation and company policies and procedures as they relate to labour law requirements and HR.
  • Strong knowledge in performance management, performance improvement plan, disciplinary actions
  • Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills.
  • Effective planning, organization, and time management skills.

Work Schedule:

  •         9:00 am – 5:00 pm or 8:30am – 4:30pm (30 minutes break)
  •          Monday to Friday
 
Salary: $63,000 - $75,000
