About the Role

Our client, a high-end coating and finishing services company is seeking an experienced and results-driven Plant Manager to oversee all aspects of production and distribution operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety across the facility. This role is responsible for driving operational performance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and leading a high-performing team to achieve key business objectives. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a hands-on leadership approach, strong financial acumen, and expertise in lean manufacturing principles.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee daily plant operations to ensure production targets, quality standards, and delivery commitments are met.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize workflows, workforce utilization, and equipment efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards.

Performance & Process Optimization

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using lean methodologies such as TPS, Six Sigma, and Kaizen.
  • Analyze data and operational metrics to identify areas for improvement and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Drive efficiency in production processes while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Safety & Compliance

  • Foster a culture of safety, ensuring all employees adhere to workplace safety protocols and WSIB regulations.
  • Implement best practices to maintain a secure and risk-free work environment.
  • Proactively address potential hazards and reinforce company safety policies.

 

Financial & Budget Management

  • Oversee plant budgets, cost control measures, and capital expenditures.
  • Work closely with Finance to track operational costs, forecast expenses, and implement cost reduction strategies.
  • Ensure financial targets are met while maintaining productivity and quality standards.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build and lead a strong production team, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance management.
  • Partner with HR to recruit, train, and retain top talent while fostering an engaged workforce.
  • Cultivate a team-oriented culture that encourages collaboration, accountability, and innovation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a key liaison between production, supply chain, customer service, and other departments.
  • Work closely with leadership to align plant operations with overall business goals.
  • Maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring high levels of service and satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Education: Post-secondary Degree in Engineering, Business, Science, or equivalent technical education.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in operations management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
    • In-depth understanding of lean manufacturing principles and process optimization.
    • Proven track record of budget management and financial decision-making.
    • Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting, problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
    • Effective communication and relationship-building with stakeholders at all levels.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
